Review Terms, Privacy + Policies

These terms apply to Story Reviews, Illustration Reviews and Review Check-Ins purchased through Elizabeth Misek.
By purchasing a review, submitting files, or using this service, you agree to the terms below.
About these reviews
Story Reviews, Illustration Reviews and Review Check-Ins are written creative feedback services.
They are designed to help authors and illustrators understand what is working, what may need strengthening, and where to focus next.
They are not editing packages, illustration packages, mentoring programs, publishing services, legal advice, or publishing guarantees.
Story Review
A Story Review is a big-picture review for picture book manuscripts up to 800 words.
It looks at the heart of the story, character, emotional thread, problem, ending, wordiness and picture book potential.
It does not include proofreading, line editing, rewriting, formatting, publishing advice, or a publishing guarantee.
Illustration Review
An Illustration Review is a big-picture review of one picture book spread, artwork, or visual story moment.
It looks at storytelling, composition, character emotion, colour, mood, text space and visual clarity.
It does not include a redraw, paint-over, technical tutorial, full portfolio review, or publishing guarantee.
Review Check-In
A Review Check-In is a mini follow-up review for clients who have already received a Story Review or Illustration Review.
It is for the same manuscript or illustration after changes have been made.
A Review Check-In is designed to let you know if the updated version feels like it is heading in the right direction, or if there is one area that may still need adjusting.
It is not a full second review. It does not include detailed notes, rewriting, editing, a redraw, paint-over, or a full reassessment.
Review Check-Ins must be submitted within 2 months of receiving your original review.
Payment
Payment is required before a review begins.
Your review will begin once both payment and all required files have been received.
Prices are listed in Australian dollars.
Introductory pricing may change at any time for future bookings.
Submitting your files
After purchasing a review, please complete the Submit Your Review Files form.
For normal files under 10 MB, please use the file upload field.
For larger files over 10 MB, please paste a Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer link into the file link box.
If you are using a file link, please make sure sharing access is turned on so the file can be opened.
If I cannot access your file, I will contact you by email.
The review timeframe begins once I have received everything needed to complete the review.
Confirmation
I’ll send you a personal confirmation email within 24 hours to let you know I have received everything needed for your review.
If anything is missing or cannot be opened, I’ll let you know.
Turnaround time
Please allow 7 working days to receive your written review once both payment and files have been received.
Working days do not include weekends or public holidays.
If there is an unexpected delay, I will contact you as soon as possible.
Updated files
Please submit the version you would like reviewed when you complete the submission form.
Updated versions may not be included once the review has started, unless I specifically request another file from you.
If you would like feedback on a revised version after receiving your review, you can purchase a Review Check-In.
Scope of feedback
Reviews are based on the files and information provided at the time of submission.
Feedback reflects my professional opinion as a picture book illustrator, author and creative reviewer.
Creative feedback is subjective, and another reviewer, publisher, editor, agent, art director or reader may have a different view.
A review does not guarantee publication, representation, sales, awards, client work, improvement, or acceptance by a publisher, agent, competition, school, organisation or platform.
Client responsibility
You are responsible for deciding how to use the feedback provided.
You do not have to apply every suggestion.
You remain responsible for your own manuscript, illustration, creative choices, submissions, publishing decisions and final project outcome.
Ownership and copyright
You keep ownership of your manuscript, illustration and creative work.
By submitting your work for review, you give me permission to view, read, assess and comment on the submitted material for the purpose of completing your review.
I do not own your submitted work.
I will not use your submitted work in my portfolio, website, marketing, social media, teaching, resources, examples or public content without your written permission.
You confirm that you own the work you submit, or that you have permission to submit it for review.
Please do not submit work that belongs to someone else unless you have permission to do so.
Confidentiality
Your manuscript, illustration and project details will be treated as confidential.
I will not share, publish, copy, post, or discuss your work publicly without your written permission.
File storage and deletion
After your review has been completed and sent, I will delete your submitted manuscript, illustration and supporting files from my active working folders.
I may keep a copy of the completed written review, email communication and basic order details for my own records.
Some information may remain in email records, payment records, website systems, form storage, cloud storage backups, or third-party service records for administrative, tax, security or legal reasons.
Your original creative files will not be kept as part of my portfolio or shared publicly.
Privacy
I collect the information needed to process your order, complete your review, communicate with you and keep basic business records.
This may include your name, email address, order details, submitted files, project information and written review.
Your information may be stored through services such as Squarespace, Stripe, Google Drive, email, Dropbox or WeTransfer, depending on how you submit your files and make payment.
I will not sell your personal information.
I will only use your information for the purpose of providing the review service, communicating with you, keeping business records, or meeting legal and tax requirements.
Refunds and cancellations
Because this is a personalised review service, change-of-mind refunds are not available once the review has started.
If you purchase a review by mistake and contact me before the review has started, I may be able to cancel and refund the order.
This does not affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
If I am unable to complete the review
If I am unable to complete your review for any reason, I will contact you and offer a refund or another suitable option.
Respectful communication
I aim to provide clear, kind and useful feedback.
I also ask for respectful communication in return.
I reserve the right to decline or stop a review if communication becomes abusive, threatening, discriminatory, or inappropriate.
If this happens, any refund will depend on how much work has already been completed and your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Technical issues
Please make sure your files are accessible and correctly uploaded.
If a file cannot be opened, I will contact you.
Your review timeframe begins once all required files can be accessed.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time.
The terms that apply to your review are the terms published at the time of your purchase.
